Day 1
After home pick-up we travel through the mid north towns of Tarlee, Gladstone and Melrose, driving part way up Mt Remarkable to the War Memorial Monument for a splendid view of this township.
Heading toward Wilmington, we visit Alligator Gorge which provides some great views of the Ranges.
A view of Spencer Gulf is seen from Hancock's Lookout before travelling to Quorn, home of the Pitchi Ritchi Railway.
After a look around the Town, we follow a circuit road to Warren Gorge~ (maybe see a Yellow Foot Rock Wallaby!)~ and Simmonston, joining the main road just north of Hawker.
Leaving Hawker, we travel along the Wilpena Road to Rawnsley Park which is our base for the next 3 days touring.
The accommodation is in well appointed cabins, with all facilities including en-suite bathrooom.
Evening meals are in the Award Winning "Shearing Shed" restaurant.
Day 2
After a cooked breakfast, we head to Wilpena Pound for a look at the tourist attractions, including The Old Wilpena Homestead.
Other points of interest include Hucks and Stokes Hill Lookouts.
Willow Springs Station is nearby.
There are 40 designated points of interest on this property, and this forms the basis of SKY TREK a 6 hour 4wd adventure which culminates in breathtaking views of Mt Caernarvon, the highest vehicle access point in the Flinders Ranges.
We take a picnic lunch on this day and enjoy the scenery !!
Day 3
There is more fantastic scenery today as we head through Wilpena to Bunyeroo Valley and Brachina Gorge (a geological time trail) to Blinman for lunch.
We explore the old Blinman Copper mine before taking the scenic Gorge Road to Parachilna.
A short distance past Parachilna is the turn-off to the Moralana Scenic Route, which takes us between the Elder Range and Wilpena Pound. This is part of Arkaba Station and high points provide good views of both Ranges.
The Route takes us back to Rawnsley Park and our accommodation.
Day 4
The Arkapena Scenic Adventure commences with a drive along the base of the colourful Chace Range, and winds through the native pine forest to the top of the ABC Range.
Relax at Prelinna lookout and be rewarded with spectacular views of the central Flinders Ranges.
The nearby Chace Range Spectacular provides an abundance and varity of flora, fauna and the colourful rock faces of the Chace Range.
Experience breathtaking views of Wilpena Pound and surrounding areas from the top of the Chace and Ulowdna Ranges!
Day 5
Leaving Rawnsley Park, we head to Hawker, then south to Quorn and Wilmington.
At Melrose we leave the sealed road for a little used track and onto a ridgetop with stunning views of Gulf St. Vincent.
The locals call this the Bridle Track or the Bridle Path because when the Germein Gorge was used for transporting grain and wool to Port Germein from the eastern farm country, it would have been very busy with wagons, with horse teams and bullock teams, so this was used to drive stock over.
Down on the flat and the tour heads back into the network of tracks branching off from the Germein Gorge, past reminders of our early pastoral history.
